Dr. Brown facilitating a GyroStim therapy session.

GyroStim is an FDA-cleared specialized rotational therapy device where individuals are securely strapped in and rotated while using a laser pointer to hit specific targets. The computer-controlled, multi-axis rotating chair delivers controlled levels of movement unique to each individual's situation or condition. The GyroStim ensures optimal intensity is applied during a session while protecting an individual from overstimulation, resulting in rehabilitation and training sessions that are individualized, challenging, and effective.

GyroStim training challenges, exercises, and enhances the body's motor control systems throughout the human body, which are essential elements of athleticism and the brain-to-body connection. The device can be used to support a variety of conditions an individual may struggle with. In addition, it can also be used to help athletes recovering from an injury or athletes who want to take their game to the next level. The GyroStim maintains and optimizes balance, spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and other essential skills. Anyone can use this tool for differing reasons, but ultimately, the GyroStim is used to optimize an individual's daily life.

The GyroStim is an FDA-approved therapy for treating vestibular dysfunction and balance disorders. However, clinics and doctors worldwide have observed anecdotal improvements in other conditions and contexts with GyroStim therapy. For instance, medical professionals have observed that GyroStim has been useful as a therapy for:

  • Cerebral palsy

  • Autism

  • Concussion / Post-Concussion Syndrome

  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

GyroStim therapy at Better Brain & Body is implemented under a customized treatment plan for a patient. Patients may decide to implement it into their treatment, or they may not. Speed and degree of rotation specifically depend on the individual, their condition, level of comfort, goals, symptoms, doctor's recommendation, and many other factors. Often, a patient's treatment plan involving GyroStim therapy does not include complete rotations and is used very slowly, so rest assured! You do not have to be a professional athlete to use this device. But if you're interested in athletes who have incorporated the GyroStim into their training protocols, check out this list.
