Frequently Asked Questions
At Better Brain & Body, functional neurology treatments are personalized, non-invasive, and designed to support healthier communication and function between the brain, nervous system, and body. Each functional neurology patient begins with a comprehensive 2-hour neurological evaluation designed to objectively assess the real-time function and connection of brain-body systems related to processing speed, reaction time, balance, coordination, eye movements, sensory processing, cognition, memory, vestibular function, autonomic regulation, and other important markers of neurological performance. Because every nervous system is different, treatment plans are individualized based on each patient’s unique findings, symptoms, goals, and health history.
Treatments are typically interactive, engaging, and exercise-based — often involving guided brain and nervous system training designed to stimulate, challenge, and rehabilitate specific neurological pathways in real time. Depending on the patient, therapies may include targeted movements, balance and coordination exercises, visual and sensory stimulation, cognitive tasks, reaction-time training, vestibular rehabilitation, neurological stimulation exercises, chiropractic care, recovery technologies, vagus nerve stimulators, and other brain-based therapies designed to improve neurological performance and adaptability. Our advanced diagnostic testing and therapies are non-invasive, and our team is always by your side to guide you through the process and answer any questions along the way.
Functional neurology is a healthcare approach focused on evaluating and improving the function and performance of the brain, nervous system, and integrated brain-body systems together. Because the brain serves as the body’s primary control center, neurological function can influence balance, coordination, cognition, movement, sensory processing, autonomic regulation, physical performance, and overall well-being — Functional Neurology is a neuroscience—informed approach that aims to assess, improve, and reassess brain-body health, cognition, and function.
Unlike traditional neurology which may focuses primarily on symptom management through medications and other conventional interventions, functional neurology emphasizes assessing and improving neurological function, adaptability, regulation, and performance through personalized, non-invasive therapies, root-cause strategies, brain-training and cognitive performance tasks, exercises, tools and other modalities outlined in our "What Are Functional Neurology Treatments Like at BB&B?" FAQ question.
Our clinic operates as a private, cash-based, self-pay practice and does not bill health insurance. While insurance plays an important role in many areas of healthcare, it also introduces significant limitations for specialized care. Insurance companies typically control how long providers can spend with patients, which therapies are allowed, and how frequently treatments can be provided. By working outside of these restrictions, we are able to: • Spend more time with each patient • Create personalized treatment plans without insurance limitations • Offer advanced therapies that are often not covered • Provide transparent pricing with no surprise bills Many patients choose this model because it allows care decisions to remain between the doctor and the patient rather than being determined by an insurance policy. For patients seeking reimbursement, we are happy to provide the necessary documentation for out-of-network claims. In general, payment is due at the time of service. Chiropractic Patients: We can file chiropractic services only with Medicare.
Because every patient’s needs and goals are unique, the total cost of care will vary depending on the diagnostics, therapies, and services included in an individualized treatment plan. For patients interested in our foundational 7-step root-cause and functional diagnostic testing protocol, the initial comprehensive examination is $800. This in-depth, 2-hour evaluation is designed to provide a detailed understanding of the real-time function and connection between the nervous system, brain, and body systems, helping identify potential areas of dysregulation, neurological imbalance, or performance-related dysfunction that may be affecting overall health and function. You can learn more about the exam here.
