WHAT TO EXPECT
WELCOME
After your 30-minute in-person strategy consultation with Dr. Brown, you will be scheduled for our in-depth 2-hour neurological exam (for new neuro patients). Our patient care coordinator will send you a new-patient email with your appointment confirmation, a welcome letter with basic instructions, and a link to the intake paperwork and a brain-based questionnaire. You will also receive appointment reminders by text message. You can find all new patient forms by clicking here. The paperwork and the questionnaire are extensive, and both play a vital role in creating a holistic blueprint of your full brain-body health, helping to familiarize Dr. Brown with you before your exam. Therefore, please complete and return your intake paperwork as soon as you can.
CASE REVIEW
After Better Brain & Body receives your completed intake paperwork and questionnaire, Dr. Brown will review your case prior to your initial exam. Submitting important and relevant medical records, doctors' notes, etc, is encouraged.
THE INITIAL EXAM
Your neurological/diagnostic exam will last about two hours. To see what your exam will entail, check out this video or read more here. This exam is designed to objectively assess the real-time function or dysfunction of various biomarkers of brain and body performance. A 7-part exam, Better Brain & Body uses a range of advanced diagnostic technologies to capture a holistic understanding of your brain-body health and function, helping you objectively see what's happening beneath the surface and establish an internal baseline for your performance. The detailed history, physical exam, and full diagnostic evaluation give Dr. Brown a clear window into how your brain functions, where your symptoms may be originating, and how to develop a treatment program that will give you the best chance of success.
DEVELOPING AN INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT PLAN
Dr. Brown will review the findings from your exam and intake form, as well as your goals, needs, or wants, as discussed in your 1-on-1 strategy consultation with her, and will address them in light of diagnostic tests. Then, because every brain is unique, she will develop a rehabilitation and performance program specific to your condition and needs.
REPORT OF FINDINGS
Your second visit is the Report of Findings. This visit can be scheduled immediately after your initial exam or on another date. We love serving our community, but we get it if 3 hours with us is too much! This second visit will last about 45-60 minutes and will serve as additional 1-on-1 time with Dr. Brown to review your exam results and discuss what a potential plan of action may look like for you or a loved one. During this time, you can ask Dr. Brown any questions or share your concerns, discover our flexible payment options, or simply learn more so you can make the best decision for your and your family's health journeys. All diagnostic test results will be emailed to the patient within 24-48 business hours at the email address on file.
Your treatment plan typically begins as soon as possible after the initial exam. In the initial care phase, we seek to stabilize signs and symptoms. The frequency and intensity of treatments will be established during your report of findings with Dr. Brown.

The brain thrives on repetition, and our care plans are customized based on what Dr. Brown thinks you can handle. In our first phase of care, our treatment plans usually range from 3 visits/week for 4-6 weeks or 2 visits/day for 1-2 weeks consecutively. This varies from patient to patient and will be determined by your doctor. We are very flexible and understand busy schedules, so we can adjust accordingly if schedules change. We encourage you to perform some of our brain-based exercises at home to further your progress. Depending on your care, Dr. Brown may prescribe brain-activation exercises to help optimize treatment outcomes. Your treatment and subsequent progress are consistently tracked, monitored, and adjusted to adapt your treatment(s) as your brain changes or heals, ensuring optimal results.
Therapy sessions will last approximately 75-90 minutes. Under most circumstances, you will be seen by Dr. Brown at each visit, but you will also likely work with Dr. Abi and our clinical assistants--all of whom are trained similarly and work as a team during visits. On the rare occasion that Dr. Brown is out of town, you will be seen by Dr. Abi.
TREATMENT BEGINS
REASSESSMENT
For most patients, a reevaluation will be performed after the initial 15-session treatment phase. Your diagnostic tests will be repeated, and the results will be compared with those from your initial evaluation to see objective progress. Dr. Brown will determine additional follow-up treatment plans and/or maintenance care based on your objective, data-driven progress, subjective health status, symptom improvement, and other crucial factors to optimize healthcare outcomes.
