As a potential new patient, you might have questions about our approach and the technologies/therapies we offer, or wonder whether we are the right fit for you. At Better Brain & Body, we offer functional neurology, body sculpting, and musculoskeletal and chiropractic services.

To help you understand our approach, Dr. Brown offers new patients a 30-minute, 1-on-1, in-person strategy consultation in which she gets to know you or a loved one, understands your concerns, and helps you customize a treatment plan at Better Brain & Body tailored to your unique needs. This 30-minute strategy consultation requires a $75 payment, which will be applied toward a future appointment or diagnostic exam. FUNCTIONAL NEUROLOGY: WHAT  TO  EXPECT

WELCOME

After your first visit, the 30-minute in-person strategy consultation with Dr. Brown, you will be scheduled for our in-depth 2-hour neurological exam (for new neuro patients). Our patient care coordinator will send you a new-patient email with your appointment confirmation, a welcome letter with basic instructions, and a link to the intake paperwork and a brain-based questionnaire. You can also find all new patient forms by clicking here.

You will also receive appointment reminders by text message. If you aren't receiving these reminders, please contact our team at 704-752-8100 or text us "START" at the same number. You should then be registered to receive notifications.

We recommend completing your forms on a desktop computer or laptop rather than on your phone for ease of use. The paperwork and the questionnaire are extensive, and both play a vital role in creating a holistic blueprint of your full brain-body health, helping to familiarize Dr. Brown with you before your exam. Therefore, please complete your intake paperwork as soon as you can.

CASE REVIEW

After Better Brain & Body receives your completed intake paperwork and questionnaire, Dr. Brown will review your case prior to your initial exam. Submitting important and relevant medical records, doctors' notes, etc, is encouraged.

THE INITIAL EXAM

Your second visit is your neurological and diagnostic exam and typically lasts about two hours. You can see what this exam includes by exploring our neurological diagnostics here. This comprehensive 7-part evaluation is designed to objectively measure the real-time function and dysfunction of key brain and body performance markers. Using a range of advanced diagnostic technologies, Better Brain & Body takes a holistic look at how your brain and body are functioning, helping uncover what may be happening beneath the surface while also establishing a clear internal baseline for your care.

Along with a detailed history and physical exam, this in-depth diagnostic process gives Dr. Brown valuable insight into how your brain is functioning, where your symptoms may be coming from, and how to build a treatment plan tailored to give you the best chance of meaningful progress. This approach may feel different from what you have experienced elsewhere. Much of today’s healthcare system focuses primarily on identifying symptoms and managing them. At Better Brain & Body, we consider symptoms carefully, but our neurological exam goes further by identifying the underlying causes of those symptoms, so treatment can address both the source of the issue and how it manifests in your daily life. That is why our diagnostic testing protocols are intentionally longer and more comprehensive than what many patients have experienced in other settings.

DEVELOPING AN INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT PLAN

Dr. Brown will review the findings from your exam and intake form, as well as your goals, needs, and wants, as discussed during your 1-on-1 strategy consultation, and will address them in light of diagnostic test results. Then, because every brain is unique, she will develop a rehabilitation and performance program specific to your condition and needs. Your treatment plan may include some of the therapies in this list

REPORT OF FINDINGS

Your third visit is the Report of Findings, which lasts 30-60 minutes but is scheduled for 45 minutes. You can schedule this appointment immediately after your exam or on a later date. We love serving our patients, but we get it if 3 hours with us in one day is too much!

This visit is included with your neurological exam and allows Dr. Brown to spend more 1-on-1 time with you to review your test results and discuss what a potential treatment plan may look like for you or a loved one. During this time, you can ask Dr. Brown any questions or share your concerns, discover our flexible payment plan options, or simply learn more so you can make the best decision for your and your family's health journeys. All diagnostic test results will be emailed to the patient within 24-48 business hours at the email address on file.

Your treatment plan typically begins as soon as possible after the neurological/diagnostic exam. In the initial care phase, we seek to stabilize signs and symptoms. The frequency and intensity of treatments will be established during your report of findings with Dr. Brown.

The brain thrives on repetition, and our care plans are customized based on what Dr. Brown thinks you can handle. In our first phase of care, our treatment plans usually range from 3 visits/week for 4-6 weeks or 2 visits/day for 1-2 weeks consecutively (Intensive Care Plans). This varies from patient to patient and will be determined by Dr. Brown. We are very flexible and understand busy schedules, so we can adjust accordingly if schedules change.

We encourage you to perform some of our brain-based exercises at home to further your progress. Depending on your care, Dr. Brown may prescribe brain-activation exercises to help optimize treatment outcomes. Your treatment and subsequent progress are consistently tracked, monitored, and adjusted to adapt your treatment(s) as your brain changes or heals, ensuring optimal results.

Therapy sessions will last approximately 75-90 minutes. Under most circumstances, you will be seen by Dr. Brown at each visit, but you will also likely work with Dr. Abi and our clinical assistants — all of whom are trained similarly and work as a team during visits. On the rare occasion that Dr. Brown is out of town, you will be seen by Dr. Abi.

TREATMENT BEGINS

REASSESSMENT

For patients who pre-pay their treatment plan in full, we include a post-treatment diagnostic exam reevaluation at the end of their initial treatment phase (15 visits). The full neurodiagnostic exam from before treatment began will be repeated, and the results will be compared with those from your initial neurological diagnostic evaluation to compare objective progress. You and Dr. Brown will discuss whether additional follow-up treatment plans and/or maintenance care are needed based on your objective, data-driven progress, subjective health status, symptom improvement, and other crucial factors to optimize health recovery and outcomes.
