AMONG WOMEN THAN MEN
Migraines are the number one neurological disorder in the Unite States. Migraines are a type of headache that is usually one sided, commonly described as throbbing or pulsating and may be proceeded by an aura. One may also experience nausea, weakness and light and sound sensitivity. Many times, migraines are debilitating and cause the sufferer to have to stop everything and go lay down in a dark quite room.
Recent advances in our understanding of migraines suggests that they are caused by central sensitization of the brain. Central sensitization causes the brain to become more sensitive to the external environment (ie. light and sound) and an increased susceptibility to pain. This means the brain is not functioning at its most optimal level.
A functional neurological assessment will evaluate the integrity of all areas of the brain allowing us to pinpoint the specific area of dysfunction in each migraine patient. It's well understood that migraines are multifaceted. Our doctors may also perform metabolic assessments, analyze lab work, and address diet and lifestyle. Our goal is to create a personalized treatment plan that helps to maximize your quality of life and reduce symptoms.
